چکیده

The effects of a municipal solid waste compost (MSWC) (from Villarrasa-HuelvaSpain) on growth, yield and mineral composition of tomato plants (Lycopersicon esculentum Miller, cv. Genaro) were studied. Results were compared with those observed both without the application of organic matter (Control) and with the app1ication of a commercial compost AC (made from sheep manure). Soils of the three treatments also received N, P and K as a deep mineral ferti1ization (181 kg haN, 22 kg haP20 S, 108 kg ha1 K20). The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse using a sandy soil and drip irrigation. The fertigation for all the treatments during the season was the usual one of the farmers of the region (120 kg haN, 20 kg haP20 S, and 60 kg ha1 K20 per week). Treatments MSWC (21000 kg ha1 dry weight; <10 mm, OM 26%, N 0.60%, P20s 0.62%, K20 0.55%) and AC (5000 kg ha1 dry weight; OM 52%, N 3.47%, P20s 0.50%, K20 2.39%) increased the concentrations of K, Ca and Mg in tomato leaves and fruits, giving rise to higher EC values of the fruit juice. However, no effect of the organic treatments was observed in N and P contents of leaves and fruits. Mean fruit weight and yield increased noticeably in treatment AC (204 g; 104.6 Mg ha-), while increasing only slight1y in MSWC (180 g; 92.3 Mg ha-) in comparison with the Control (166 g; 90.7 Mg ha-).

Integrated solid waste management in megacities

Rapid urbanization and industrialization, population growth and economic growth in developing countries make management of municipal solid waste more complex comparing with developed countries. Furthermore, the conventional municipal solid waste management approach often is reductionists, not tailored to handle complexity. Therefore, the need to a comprehensive and multi-disciplinary approach r...

مطالعه تأثیر کاربرد برخی کودهای زیستی و کمپوست زباله شهری به‌عنوان بسترهای کشت بر برخی شاخص‌های رشد آهار (Zinnia elegans

Due to the excessive use of chemical fertilizers and also the lack of adequate information on the growth responses of ornamental plants to bio-fertilizers and municipal solid waste compost, this investigation was carried out on Zinnia. Therefore, a field experiment was conducted in complete randomized block design with three replications. Fertilizers included municipal solid waste compost, phos...

Effect of different ratios of municipal solid waste compost on growth parameters and yield of Marigold (Calendula officinalis Moench.) and Daisy (Bellis Perennis L.).

In a country like Iran, where soil organic matter is less than 1% and in most cases even less than 0.5 %, Municipal solid waste (MSW) is a permanent and inexpensive source of organic matter. Various experiments have indicated that applications of compost improve plant health, yield and nutritional quality. However, the quality of the compost determines the growth and the development of plants. ...
